Windsor Spitfires Take Command Against Sarnia Sting

Last year, the Spitfires and Sarnia Sting were both in rebuilding phases, missing the playoffs. But this season, things are heating up, and there’s even talk of a first-round playoff matchup between these two Western Conference rivals.

"It could be a potential first-round matchup soon," said Spitfires’ rookie forward Ethan Garden after Thursday night’s electric 8-2 win in front of 4,348 fans at WFCU Centre. The victory marked Windsor’s second commanding win over Sarnia in just six days, following a 7-2 rout on February 7.

Playoff Mindset Kicking In

With the playoffs looming, the Spitfires are locked in. Forward Greentree, who racked up four points in Thursday’s game, emphasized the team's consistency and focus:

"We always have the same mindset going into each game. We never take them lightly. We know they work hard, and any win like that feels like an accomplishment."

Garden, who scored twice, reflected on the experience of his first multi-goal game in the OHL:

"It feels amazing. There’s really nothing better than finding success. It’s just a great feeling."

Windsor stormed out of the gate with a dominant first period, outshooting Sarnia 16-5 and taking a 3-0 lead with goals from Ilya Protas, Noah Morneau, and Garden. By the time Morneau and Garden each added their second goals, Windsor had chased the Sting’s starting goaltender for the second time in two games.
